RULES & REGULATIONS

GAMEPLAY:

1) Games will be 18 minutes, first-to-5 goals. You must win by 2 goals (example: If a game is tied at 4-4, the game becomes first-to-6 goals. Should time run out, the team with more goals is the winner). In the event of a tie, a 3-shooter shootout will immediately follow regulation.

2) Games will consist of 4-on-4 play with goaltenders.

3) Teams will consist of up to 7 players and 1 goaltender. Teams may decide how they wish to organize their subs. Subbing "on the fly" will be permitted this season. There will be a designated bench area, and a stick-tap will sub in another player. Pulling goalies will be permitted as well. No players other than the 8 registered players can play on your team. There will be no subbing of outside players.

4) All teams are required to wear jerseys. Each team will be provided with a BSHL jersey by the league.

5) There will be three types of penalties this year:

Minor (2:00) - any sort of on-court infraction (slashing, roughing, throwing the stick, etc.).

Unsportsmanlike/Fighting (5:00) - any player that becomes unruly, disrespects other players, referees or the BSHL in any way. This penalty will result in time-served. Upon a second unsportsmanlike infraction, the player will receive a game misconduct. This also includes willing destruction or loss of BSHL equipment (balls, nets, etc.) plus a 4-game suspension, and may have to appear before a BSHL tribunal. The BSHL withholds the right to review extreme cases of any unsportsmanlike behavior.

Too Many Men (2:00) - any team with more than 4 skaters on the court at one time, or an illegal line change.

6) All players must wear rollerblades.

7) It is recommended by the BSHL that all players use other protective gear (helmets, gloves, etc.) Upon the first head injury, the BSHL reserves the right to impliment a mandatory helmet rule.

8) There will be no drinking, drugs or other illegal activities at the BSHL courts during game nights.

9) Games will start at scheduled times. All teams should arrive 30 minutes before their first scheduled

game. Teams that arrive more than one full game-slot late for their first game will forfeit that game. Eg. If you play in the first slot, and arrive in the second slot, you will forfeit. If you play in the first spot, and arrive during the first spot, you will play in the second spot. The BSHL should be notified of any absence or lateness by teams by noon on gameday. A 1-0 loss will be rewarded. See Rule 15.

10) A win will result in 2 points, a SOL in 1 point, and a loss in 0 points. In the event of a tie in the standings, GF/GA will be averaged to determine placements.

11) Goals will be recorded and posted during the '09 season. Teams will be required to report goals to referees at the end of each game to ensure accurate stats. It will not be the responsibility of the referee to keep track of goal-scorers. Should you choose not to record goals, your team's stats will not be recorded.

12) There will be a face-off at the beginning of the game, as well as before the start of an overtime period (in the playoffs). After each goal, the defending team must wait for the scoring team to retreat past half before proceeding. This will be signaled by a whistle. Should the scoring team loiter longer than 10 seconds in the zone, the ref will blow the whistle indicating a delay of game penalty to the scoring team.

13) At the beginning of each game, one representative from each team will meet to determine court sides. This will be done by coin toss, the winner choosing their preferred side.

14) Cancelled game nights will not be made up, and the following week the schedule will continue as planned.

15) Teams that miss a week of play will automatically forfeit their games. No make-up games will be allowed.

16) After the registration of 14 teams, the 15th team slot will be tentative to the registration of a 16th team to eliminate odd numbered conferences.

REFEREEING:

1) Each team will be required to referee 2 games per game night. Teams may decide who from their roster will referee, refusal to referee resulting in a forfeit. This is to encourage equal and fair refereeing for every game.

PLAYOFFS:

1) All series will be best 2 out of 3.

2) Playoff games will be 15 minutes for Quarter Finals and Conference Semi Finals. The Conference Finals and BSHL Finals will be 20 minute games. In all rounds, 5 minutes of overtime will come before a regular 3-shooter shootout.

3) Playoffs will work in regular format: 1st vs. 8th, 2nd vs. 7th, etc.
